Course Description

Hope is not just a concept; it is a tool that can play a crucial role in helping people. During this human experience, hope can assist people to reach goals, find happiness, and improve their health and well-being. The focus of this course is the science of hope: how it works with our minds and bodies to improve health and how to foster hope when feeling hopeless. Core topics include developing a deeper understanding of how important hope is to our clients’ overall quality of life.

Course Objectives

  • Identify evidence-based theories of hope

  • Discuss the four types of hope

  • Examine the physical, cognitive and emotional benefits of hope

  • Understand how to measure hope

  • Discover how to engage clients in fostering hope

About the Instructor

Michael Chiappone, LCSW

Michael Chiappone has been a Social Worker for the past 17 years. His work has primarily focused on assisting people who are homeless, mentally ill, or living with Substance Use Disorder. He also sees clients who seek help for a variety of reasons. For most of his career, he worked at Hope House Ministries, a highly respected not-for-profit agency. He held two positions at Hope House, Director of Project Hope II, a program that worked specifically with the chronic homeless population. He also assisted in developing and implementing Hope Academy, a non-traditional, long-term treatment facility for substance abuse. Currently, he works full-time as a Coordinator of a SUD treatment facility.

One of Michael’s passions is learning and teaching. Michael has had the opportunity to teach college-level courses as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook. He taught a foundation course entitled Human Behavior and the Social Environment. He also had the opportunity to develop courses including Spirituality and Addiction as well as Self-Care for Social Workers.

How to Register

  • Select the class you wish to register for.

  • Enter all requested information.

  • Please note, enter your name and how you would like your certificate to be printed.

How do I Sign In?

  • Once you register check your email. The link for the course will be sent by ZOOM.

  • Please sign in 5-10 mimues early.

Course Requirements

  • Sign in to the workshop on time. We will start promptly, and there will be a cutoff for entry.

  • You are required to stay logged throughout the presentation.

  • Your attendance will be verified by the login information provided by ZOOM.

How do I get my CE?

  • Once the class is over, your instructor will give you a verbal course completion code and share it on the screen.

  • Once you get this code, you must sign into the CHI website to get your CE.(You created an account when you registered)

  • When you are signed in, you will see your course.

  • Click on either Start or Resume Course. That will take you to the course survey.

  • Once you are signed in and have followed the above steps, you will be able to enter the course completion code, complete the survey, and get your CE!
